Recently, rumors from adventurers and reports from official scouting parties have reignited the search for this mysterious dragon. Though inconsistent, these sources provide glimpses of a creature that might still dwell within the icy heart of the Evareach Peaks.

It is said that RaThon was the apex predator of the Evareach Peaks, a towering, majestic dragon who made his lair in the heart of an ice-bound cavern high in the mountains. The peaks themselves are inhospitable—ruthless expanses of jagged rock and deep, howling crevasses. Only those with nothing to lose, or much to gain, would dare venture there. And for centuries, none have emerged with any proof of RaThon's presence. The dragon has not been seen by any living soul, save perhaps a tribe of goblins, the so-called RaThon Tribe.

The RaThon Tribe, a splinter of Grimgob goblins, is rumored to tend to his every need, acting as his custodians and guardians of his lair. These goblins are said to protect RaThon, or perhaps only protect the idea of him. A recently recovered ancient scroll from a ruined elven tower in the Ebonhart Forest depicts a dragon that matches RaThon's mute rumored description, complete with markings on his crest that appear rather unique to him, lending some weight to the stories the RaThon Tribe have spread.

Many believe that RaThon is dead—a relic of a bygone era, now lost to history. That the goblins tend to the skeletal remains or a lesser white dragon who took resident in RaThon’s lair. The ancient texts make it clear that dragons do not measure time as mortals do. And while attempts to scry the region have often seen goblins with painted white dragons on their banners, most attempts have been fruitless or simply disorienting, in my own attempts, I’ve experienced an overwhelming sense of cold and darkness, perhaps hinting at something still lurking in the icy depths. It would make sense, given that dragons, especially ones as powerful as RaThon, can slumber for decades, even centuries.

What intrigues me most, however, are the legends that speak of the Krurt goblins and their connection to RaThon. It is said that the Krurt managed to strike a deal with the great white dragon—offering him tributes, and more, in exchange for their safety. Further reports indicate the Krurt have been using the blood of white dragons to increase their power. The ancient scroll implies that this practice began with RaThon.

Even more telling are the recent sightings of young white drakes within the mountains—some believe these may be RaThon's offspring or connected to his domain in some way. A vanquished young drake was identified with similar markings as shown on RaThon’s ancient depiction.

RaThon’s legacy is also entwined with the Valley of Stillness, a place that exists in the shadow of the Evareach Peaks. According to legend, RaThon once unleashed his icy wrath upon an invading force of giantkin that sought to conquer his domain. In a single terrible night, the entire valley was frozen, with the giants trapped within, their expressions of fear and defiance preserved in the ice for eternity. This valley, if it truly exists, has never been found by any explorer, and yet its story lives on, a testament to the dragon’s destructive power.

But those fears have faded. In the current era, RaThon is a ghost of a legend, nothing more than a story to be told around a campfire, a way to frighten children into behaving. People do not truly fear him. They believe him to be dead, if he even existed at all, his bones frozen somewhere deep within the ice.

And yet, there is a part of me that wonders, that hopes. What if RaThon lives? What if he merely slumbers, waiting for a time when the world has forgotten him enough that he might rise unchallenged, reclaiming the peaks that were always his? The Grimgob goblins still speak of him, the RaThon Tribe is rumored to tend to his lair—or at least to the legend of it. No one knows for sure if RaThon still draws breath, if his great wings are folded in quiet rest, or if his icy roar will one day be heard once more across the peaks.

For now, RaThon remains a mystery. A lost legend, buried beneath layers of snow and time, waiting. If I were to search for him, I’d begin by finding the RaThon splinter tribe of goblins or seek out the Valley of Stillness for surely that is where his lair, and hoard of treasure, lay.

Whether he is a tale of the past or a force that will rise again, only time will tell. Until then, I continue my studies, piecing together fragments of history, following the rumors, and hoping that one day, I might discover the truth of the great white dragon of the Evareach Peaks.

Notes on RaThon

The truth about RaThon is obscured by a variety of sources, both credible and dubious. The following accounts paint a fragmented picture of what might be true:

Rumors from Adventurers: There have been multiple, albeit inconsistent, tales from adventurers claiming to have heard or seen signs of RaThon or his goblin followers. Some say they were chased away by Grimgob goblins, but none have produced evidence of the dragon himself.

Reports from Official Scouting Parties: Several scouting parties, dispatched by the nobles of Freeport, have attempted to find RaThon's lair. They often return with no findings, but one recent report mentions strange tracks that could only belong to a massive creature moving within the deepest caverns of the Evareach Peaks.

Recently Recovered Ancient Scroll: A scroll, recovered from the archives of a ruined elven tower, depicts a dragon matching RaThon's description, along with markings on his crest that are unique to him. This scroll has renewed interest in RaThon's possible existence.

Scrying of Reported Areas: Attempts to scry the region where RaThon is rumored to reside have yielded mixed results. Most who attempt to scry either see nothing but snow and ice or are met with a sense of overwhelming cold and darkness, suggesting that something powerful may still dwell there, obscuring attempts to locate it.

Recent Sightings of Young White Drakes: Over the last decade, there have been occasional sightings of young white drakes flying within the mountains. Some speculate that these creatures may be RaThon's offspring, or at the very least, connected to his domain.

Recovered Remains of a Young White Dragon: A carcass of a young white dragon was recently recovered by an adventuring party. The marks on its crest were found to closely match those described in the ancient scroll, implying a possible lineage to RaThon. This has only fueled further speculation that RaThon is indeed alive, perhaps breeding and watching over his progeny.
