Deep within the Ebonhart Forest, where the trees grow ancient and thick, where the ground is soft with decay and blanketed in tangled webs, the Brood of Yavi thrives. At the heart of this sprawling hunting ground, within the nesting pits woven into the roots of the towering trees, resides their massive and terrifying queen—Yaviscizz.
At over twelve feet wide and six feet tall, she is an apex predator, a monstrous Atzul Broodmother whose bulk alone can crush most prey beneath her. Unlike her kin, who typically rely on ambush tactics, Yaviscizz is large enough to chase down and devour nearly anything that crosses her domain. Her jagged black-and-green exoskeleton, marked with ancient scars, serves as a warning—few who have faced her have lived to speak of it.
But it is not just her size or power that makes her feared—it is her cruelty. The Brood of Yavi does not simply hunt—they play, toying with their prey for sport and amusement.
Yet before she became the terror of the Ebonhart Forest, before her name was whispered in fear, Yaviscizz was nothing more than a wounded remnant of a fallen brood.
The Fall of the Brood
Yaviscizz was once a Broodguard, a young but aggressive defender of her hive queen. She had not yet reached her full maturity, but she was fierce and loyal, bred for one purpose—to protect her Queen and the heart of her brood.
But one night, everything changed.
A rival Atzul Brood descended upon her hive, their hunters and webweavers flooding in, tearing through the silken tunnels and tree-woven web bridges.
The Queen fought back, but the invading brood had grown larger and stronger, overwhelming them.
The Broodguard fought to the last, but one by one, they fell, torn apart by their Atzul adversary's own broodguard and queen.
Like much of her kin, Yaviscizz was left behind, her chitin cracked, her legs shattered, barely alive among the ruins of her nest.
She dragged herself away from the destroyed hive, bleeding and injured, she limped as far as she could. Out of energy, she resigned herself to her death.
And that’s when Stirk found her.
The Goblin & The Beast
Stirk of the Ebonspear tribe was no ordinary goblin. He was an Atzul breeder, one of the rare goblins who had learned the clicking and strumming language of the spiders, who knew how to raise them, tame them, and break them into submission.
But even he had never seen a spider like Yaviscizz.
She should have died in the dirt, but she clung to life, her body twitching with rage and pain. Stirk saw something in her, something untamed, something that even he couldn’t fully control—and for some reason, he didn’t try to.
He used a magic mushroom dust, a goblin alchemical powder from the Murklin goblins, to soothe her, allowing her rage to subside long enough for him to tend to her wounds.
He fed her, nursed her back to strength, and over the next few weeks, something unexpected happened—Yaviscizz recovered, healed, and began moving again.
However, she was not so easily tamed. Any other goblin that came near her was torn apart and eaten. Any tamed Atzul spider that approached was devoured or attacked on sight. She simply was not tameable.
And Stirk knew what that meant—the other spider tamers would kill her.
Escape & Rebirth
Word spread quickly among the Ebonspear. An Atzul Broodguard that refused to be tamed? A killer, even of its own kind? The other spider breeders bickered that she would bring ruin if left alive.
Stirk heard their bickering, and knew it was only a matter of time. They planned to kill her, knowing even a wounded Broodguard was too dangerous to keep around.
One dark night, he snuck out of Mossy Hollow, leading Yaviscizz into the woods, away from prying eyes and blades waiting in the dark.
He guided her north of the village, into a small grove with a small spring. There, he helped her settle, bringing her food, tending to her growing strength, and watching as she began to rebuild—not just her body, but something greater.
She was no longer a just a Broodguard—she was becoming more dangerous, more powerful. A Broodmother, a queen rising from the ruins of her past.
The Birth of a Queen
For years, Stirk and Yaviscizz remained hidden, forming a bond, though both knew it was only temporary. And then the adventurers came.
A band of humans, likely scouts from Freeport, stumbled upon the nest, looking for goblin outposts. They found Stirk and attacked without hesitation. He did not last long, and when his body hit the dirt, Yaviscizz awoke to the scent of his blood.
What happened next became legend.
The adventurers did not simply die. They were shredded, their armor torn open like paper, their bones crushed, their screams silenced. She did not hunt them—she obliterated them, her fury consuming every last survivor.
But when the killing was done, she did not devour Stirk’s body. Instead, she did something unheard of for an Atzul Spider. She wrapped him in silk, preserved his body, and carried him back to Mossy Hollow.
She placed him at the village gates, cocooned in a shroud. A preparation of a Skragglin goblin typically reserved for chiefs. A final gift and respect to the only being who had ever treated her as more than a monster.
A Nest of Terror
The Brood of Yavi is one of the largest and most well-known Atzul spider broods in Anuheim, its influence stretching far beyond its central hive. Nestled northeast of Mossy Hollow, a dominant Skragglin village, the brood has become a deadly but accepted presence in the region.
The Webbed Border of Mossy Hollow
The Brood of Yavi wraps around nearly a third of Mossy Hollow’s outer border, their woven tunnels and silken traps forming a natural barrier against outsiders.
This proximity to the goblins has created an unusual relationship—one of prey, predators, uneasy cooperation, and mutual protection.
The Ebonspear tribe, the dominant Skragglin clan of Mossy Hollow, is both food and beneficiary of the Brood of Yavi.
While many goblins fall prey to the brood, the most cunning among them have found ways to tame, breed, and utilize the Atzul spiders.
This lucrative trade from stealing Atzul eggs from the brood’s deepest nests to taming and breeding them has made the Ebonspear tribe a major supplier of trained spiders, used for warfare, transport, and harvesting spider silk.
The Nesting Grounds
The Brood of Yavi’s nest is sprawling, consisting of silken burrows, tree-draped web hives, and subterranean tunnels where their young and Webweavers can remain hidden.
The Brood of Yavi has expanded far and wide in a crescent shape along the border to Mossy Hollow, feeding on the constant supply of goblins, wandering beasts, and humans who come too close.
The Cruelty of Yavi’s Brood
The Brood of Yavi, being highly successful, is unlike other Atzul broods in that they take pleasure in tormenting their prey. They do not always kill immediately—instead, they toy with their victims, sometimes allowing them to escape, only to hunt them again later.
This sadistic behavior has led to a growing number of survivors, those who have escaped Yavi’s web only to return with stories of giant spiders lurking in the dark, watching, waiting, playing with their prey.
Some captives are released, chased back to their settlements, only for the brood to stalk them in the night, pulling them from their beds when they least expect it.
Others are bound in silk but kept alive, watched for days before being consumed.
The Freeport Raids
The Brood of Yavi does not limit itself to goblins—it actively hunts humans, particularly those from the countryside surrounding Freeport.
They are known to raid small villages and isolated homesteads, and picking off those who wander too far into the woods.
Albeit rare, they do catch merchants and adventurers in the Ebonhart Forest along the overgrown and abandoned roadway and other pathways through the forest.
The Queen’s Influence & Power
Unlike other Atzul queens, Yaviscizz rarely remains hidden. She is larger, stronger, and more aggressive than most broodmothers, making her a visible force within her own territory.
As a Broodmother, she holds a powerful mental influence over her children. Even without spoken orders, the spiders understand her will—they know when to hunt, when to expand, and when to defend the nest.
Yaviscizz does not simply sit at the heart of the nest—she is active, patrolling her domain and punishing weakness within her own brood.
She is known to devour her own young if they displease her, ensuring that only the strongest Atzul survive to serve her.
Final Thoughts
The Brood of Yavi is not just another Atzul nest—it is a thriving, expanding terror, a force that has woven itself into the politics and survival of Mossy Hollow and the greater Ebonhart Forest.
At the center of it all sits Yaviscizz, the monstrous Broodmother. Few who enter her domain leave untouched—and those who do carry the nightmares of the Brood of Yavi with them for the rest of their days.
